The MAG-C family of software from Bockmon Tax Systems
contains 3 separate packages to prepare and submit
files to IRS or SSA
(MAG-C 1099, MAG-C 1042, MAG-C W2).

MAG-C was produced inhouse for our
own use, and it's also available for sale on this website.
MAG-C was
designed
for our requirements,
and is coded for speed and
accuracy. MAG-C is packaged with an installation
program
which sets up on the Windows desktop. MAG-C runs well with
Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP.
MAG-C has not
been fully tested on VISTA or Windows 7, but our research indicates
that MAG-C should run
on any Microsoft Windows platform. If you are using VISTA or
Windows 7, we encourage you to download a
prior-year version of MAG-C
and install it on your system for test purposes before ordering our software. One
perceived issue that may
arise is the necessity to print to a USB port (many newer computers and printers no
longer offer a LPT port
connection). A device driver such as DOS2USB (available online) may be a solution for
printing from MAG-C to a

MAG-C Software Features

We also provide a separate utility package
named CVMAG-C which will help you to import your ASCII-Formatted
data to the MAG-C programs, saving you the task of
manually entering data. Convert your Excel files by first
saving as comma-delimited from Excel; then use CVMAG-C to convert the comma-delimited file for MAG-C use.

Special user note:
MAG-C is what some still call DOS software, although that description
is not accurate.
That definition would have to apply to most operating systems. Every
version of MS Windows is built on top of
their original product, MS-DOS (disk operating system). Software
products that are generally referred to as
Windows software take advantage of the additional functions made
available by the Windows OS, such as
the graphical user interface. If you prefer the look and feel of
using Windows software, then I can recommend
several more expensive programs available which you may prefer.
However, if you prefer speed over esthetics,
and don't mind entering a few keystrokes, such as Alt-M, I think you'll
be pleased with MAG-C. We decided not
to offer a Windows version of MAG-C because it serves our purposes so
well. During the tax season, speed,
intuitive operations and crash-proof reliability are important to us.
We believe most users would benefit from
using our software, but we also understand the appeal of the Windows
interface. Personally, I am often frustrated
by the wait times inherent in Windows software, but we recommend that you
use a system most comfortable
for you. If you prefer the familiar look and feel of Windows

several recommendations for competitor's software that we have
researched.
Request
custom form features:
Since MAG-C is produced from proprietary code belonging to Bockmon Tax
Systems, we can offer customized
versions of the software to fit your needs. For
example, if you wish to enter 1099-MISC forms manually
(data entry),
and your report consists of "Nonemployee Compensation"
amounts only:
After ordering your software, send email explaining your
special requirements. We will send you
a version of MAG-C 1099 which eliminates on-screen data fields,
alowing you to sequence your form
fields in the fastest possible manner. In this case, for
each form added, you'd enter:
Name, Street, City, State, Zip, IDN, Nonemployee
Comp,...DONE. This allows faster form entry,
as you can enter only the
data required, without sequencing through nonessential fields.
Most customized forms are available at your request for an
additional $50, payable with invoice.
Print features:
All MAG-C programs print
recipient copies in an IRS/SSA approved format. Forms print
to any laser-jet
or any printer using the Epson Esc/P command set. Most printers
will work with one of the supported types.
If you have any concerns regarding compatibility problems,
download a free copy of the prior-year
version
for test purposes before ordering.
1) Print to plain paper, use standard windowed envelopes, and save on
print and mailing costs.
2) If you prefer to use preprinted forms, we can insert a
print function designed for your form type.
To do this, we need a sample
of the form you will be using and/or the coordinate data for the form.
