MAG-C, the Software We Use
The MAG-C family of software from Bockmon Tax Systems
contains 3 separate packages to prepare and submit
files to IRS or SSA
(MAG-C 1099, MAG-C 1042, MAG-C W2).
MAG-C was produced inhouse for our
own use, and it's also available for sale on this website.
MAG-C was
designed
for our requirements,
and is coded for speed and
accuracy. MAG-C is packaged with an installation
program
which sets up on the Windows desktop. MAG-C runs well with
Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP.
All MAG-C programs print
recipient copies in an IRS/SSA approved format.
1) Print to plain paper, use standard windowed envelopes, and save on
print and
mailing costs.
2) If you prefer to use preprinted forms, we can insert a
print function designed for your form type.
To do this, we need a sample
of the form you will be using and/or the coordinate data for the form.
CUSTOMIZED FOR YOU:
Since MAG-C is produced from proprietary code belonging to Bockmon Tax
Systems, we can offer customized
versions of the software to fit your needs.
For
example, if you wish to enter 1099-MISC forms manually (data entry),
and your report consists of
"Nonemployee Compensation"
amounts only:
After ordering your software, send email explaining your
special requirements. We will send you
a version of MAG-C 1099 which eliminates on-screen data fields,
alowing you to sequence your form
fields in the fastest possible manner. In this case, for
each form added, you'd enter:
Name, Street, City, State, Zip, IDN, Nonemployee
Comp,...DONE. This allows faster form entry,
as you can enter only the
data required, without sequencing through nonessential fields.
Most Customized forms are available at your request for an
additional $50, payable with invoice.
Network Deployment
MAG-C is a desktop application, with no network-specific features.
However, it can be installed to a
client-server or peer-to-peer network if certain precautions are
observed. Of particular concern is the
possibility of file-clashing. There is currently no built-in file
protection in the MAG-C software coding.
If two users simultaneously attempt to access a file, a system crash is
likely to occur. For this reason,
it is strongly recommended that MAG-C, if installed on a network, be
restricted to an individual user.
Most MAG-C users require only a destop application. Given
sufficient demand, we can add the coding
necessary to avoid file conflicts, making MAG-C more network-friendly.

1099 |
MAG-C
1099 allows you to prepare and file most IRS forms listed on
the form 1096 (1099s,5498, 1098, W-2g) electronically. All calculations and
transfers are automatic. Enter your data and let the
program instantly format your forms into files which can be
submitted to IRS on diskette, or file it electronically. A
data conversion
utility (CVMAGC) is available to convert ASCII -delimited files
for instant data import.

Combined Federal-State Filing
32
states now participate in
this program. With MAG-C 1099,
form types 1099-M,D,G,I,O,P,R, & 5498
can be filed once at the federal level
and IRS will release the information
to the state(s).
To format a state record in the
submission file, you must select this
option during the format process, and
state data must be present in the
1099 fields.
In order to participate in the Combined Federal/State Filing
program, a test file
coded for this program must be submitted.
A hard-copy printout is not acceptable. A
test file is only required for the first year. Blanket
approval will not be given to software packages.
If your test file is accepted, IRS will send
you a form 6847.
The payer must complete and return the Form 6847
before IRS will release the tax information to any of the
participating states. A separate form is required for each
payer.
Bockmon Tax Systems is approved for fed-state filing, and we
offer this service to our clients.

Utility CVMAG-C
Most accounting, spreadsheet, and other programs allow you to export your data to a file
in ASCII-delimited format. This utility will convert your
ASCII-delimited files to the MAG-C format for all forms. This can
save enormous data-entry time. Order the conversion
program (CVTMAG-C) if you'll be
extracting your data.
Converts W-2 and 1099 files only. Not available for
1042.
Sold separately to your advantage.
Ordering CVTMAG-C can be a bargain. Many tax years,
tax form data will not change. In these years, there's
no need to purchase a current version. After your
initial purchase, contact us the following year to see if your
version is valid for the form you are filing.
For more complex data conversions, contact us
to extract your data for you.

MAG-C
1042 allows
you to fill out and file IRS 1042-S forms electronically and
file form 1042 separately. All required forms print
on plain paper. All calculations and transfers are automatic. Input your data and
let the program instantly format your forms into files which can be submitted to IRS
on 3 1/2" diskette or filed electronically. A conversion utility is available to convert
ASCII -delimited files which will save you data entry
time (See left). The
program is menu-driven, with on-line help and a pop-up calculator. Forms are in familiar
IRS-format. Full program documentation is included.

ASCII IMPORT)
All MAG-C programs are
written in C, directly address hardware using BIOS calls, and
are launched by the primary disk operating system. This
method results in very fast operations, no-crash reliability,
and enables us to produce custom applications very quickly.
There are advantages to
running MAG-C from Windows: 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP and each
program self-installs to your Windows platform. MAG-C
has also been approved for
use with OS/2 Warp and
will run in Linux using DOSemu. MAG-C is designed for use
on a single computer, but easily adapts to network
environments.
MAG-C has been
offered commercially since 1993. The program is
menu-driven, with on-line help and a pop-up calculator.
